Classic direct primary care does not bill insurance. It is a membership you pay directly to the clinic. Cadalawn is different. We are a hybrid clinic in Cypress that accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna and also offers membership, so you can use insurance, a membership, or both.
Direct primary care and insurance are often described as rivals, yet they were built to solve different problems. Understanding how each one works makes the choice simple, and at our clinic you do not have to pick only one.
How direct primary care and insurance usually work
Direct primary care is a membership. You pay a flat monthly fee to the clinic and receive unlimited primary care with no copays. Insurance, by contrast, pools risk for the large and unpredictable costs of medicine, such as hospital stays, surgery, and specialist care, usually after a deductible. One handles your daily care, the other protects you from rare, expensive events.
Why most DPC clinics do not take insurance
Traditional direct primary care clinics stay out of insurance billing on purpose. Removing the paperwork lets them keep prices low, spend more time with each patient, and avoid the coding rules that shorten visits. The American Academy of Family Physicians describes how the direct primary care model gives that time back. The trade off is that a pure membership clinic cannot process your insurance for a covered service.
The Cadalawn hybrid model
We built Cadalawn to give you the best of both. You can use your insurance for covered care, or join on membership for unlimited access, or combine them. Right now we accept these plans:
Whichever path you choose, you meet the same provider and receive the same calm, attentive care. See current options on our services page or ask us to confirm your plan.
Using insurance and membership together
Many patients find the strongest setup is both. You keep an insurance plan for hospital and specialist coverage, and you add a membership for the everyday relationship that insurance rarely provides: unlimited visits, direct access, and time that is truly yours. If you would like to compare the two side by side, our guide on direct primary care vs insurance lays it out clearly.
